This variety was obtained from an intentional community in California USA. The original source variety is unknown, it is likely a more modern heritage variety which has undergone a long term stabilization into a new heirloom.

Rainbow Farm wheat is a very stable variety, with each plant identical in height, tillers and grain head size. Of note are the exceptionally large grain heads for such a short variety. Low biomass yield.
